11 CA-3-A030808001 2025-03-04T06:33:31 Community-Driven Initiatives for Food Security - I The project is implemented jointly by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ghana. It is improving household food security in 250 communities in twelve districts of the dry Eastern Corridor of the Northern Region of Ghana by supporting community-based and district-wide food security initiatives. The project is also strengthening decentralized local government structures to support community-driven development by helping communities, civil society, and local government work together to improve food security. This is one of two components of the project. It focuses on building capacity of communities and local government including districts with support of the Canadian coordinating agency in planning community-driven food security initiatives. The investment funds provided under the second component are provided to districts to carry out the planned food security initiatives. In addition, 250 community action plans and 74 area-level plans were completed in twelve districts. (2) The project has enhanced the collaboration between communities, sub-district bodies, district assemblies, line agencies, and service providers in developing food security initiatives. (3) The project has also supported community-driven, socially inclusive, gender-sensitive planning and implementation processes. (4) The project one-year extension currently underway provides logistical support, training and technical assistance at the regional level. The extension increases the capacity to plan and integrate initiatives, and to coordinate the work of line agencies to reduce food insecurity throughout the region.
